Unusual goldfish floating may be because of buoyancy or problems with their swim bladders. This organ is responsible for the fish buoyancy or ability to float. When the swim bladder becomes diseased, this can affect the goldfish ability to swim. It may swim unsteadily or lose the ability to bound and just go on floating on the surface of your aquarium.
The way you feed your goldfish may lead to this type of problem. If this happens, try soaking the fish pellets or flakes prior to feeding your fish. Dry fish pellets or flakes usually remain on the water surface. When your goldfish goes up to eat, they possibly swallow excess air, which can lead to congestion or problems with the bladder. It only takes one ailing fish to infect its tank mates.
Abnormal goldfish floating can also result from the way they were developed and what their original food sources used to be. Goldfish that came from fish farms typically was raised in a very different environment from aquariums. Their main food source would come from plants in the pond. Creatures, algae, worms and any other naturally occurring food are the source of nourishment for farm-grown goldfish.
When the goldfish is bought and delivered to pet shops and fish shops, their environment changes dramatically. Their diet also changes considerably, as they are now fed commercially bought fish food. These processed foods carry more protein, carbohydrates, fat, and other nutrients than the food that they were accustomed to eating. Commercially available food is also tougher to digest. Indigestion can lead to blocked intestines. Blocked intestines can cause abnormal goldfish floating.
To avert such a dilemma, make sure that you know where your goldfish got here from. It is essential to find out the environment where they were emerged and raised. This will also give you a clue about how they were fed. To keep your fish healthy, you must try to feed it very similar to how they were earlier fed.
